Why an upside down heart?

As I mentioned, I lived on real working ranch with a lot of real working cowboys. One of them was a legend himself. The kind that has lived truly in the middle of nowhere and played his guitar in a barn for entertainment (he still does this). Jeff Nourse worked with us every time at Crestone Ranches. He actually played the guitar for me when I walked down the aisle to marry my husband, Grant. He was the owner of the upside down heart brand. I had always loved it.

We went to AZ once and I saw it beautifully stamped on a stunning black horse’s right shoulder. I remember running my hand over the horse’s brand while I gave him a bath. Fast forward 4 years, Grant and I have the opportunity to move to the Corazon Ranch. If you’re not familiar with Spanish Corazon means heart in Spanish.

In September during fall works Grant was working alongside Jeff and Jeff told him he had a brand he thought Grant needed now that we had moved to the Corazon Ranch. Grant knew immediately he was right and it would make the perfect 5 year anniversary gift for me. Since Grant bought the brand for me it has become my identity. If you catch me around town you will see me in an upside down heart brand hat or shirt.

Originally, my photography brand was a Corriente steer because Crestone Ranches had Corriente cattle. That’s why a lot of my photos are of horned cattle. I still love that logo. I still have stickers and some shirts. However, since I have owned the upside down heart brand, I have made everything have an upside down heart. My horses all wear it too.

I love its roots, I love that it was a gift and I love that it’s so unique to me and my home.
